1849 One year after Wisconsin become a state and seven years before the Village of Neenah would incorporate, First United Methodist Church was formed. William H. Sampson served as our first pastor.
The original church building was destroyed in a fire in 1937. The fire department was right across the street from First Church at the time but was unable to respond - the heat of the blaze prevented the fire department from opening its doors.
But we would rebuild. In 1938 ground was broken for a new church on Doty Street, where we continue to worship today. An education wing was added to our building in 1964, and a Fellowship Commons in 1990.
We remember our heritage by continuing the tradition of a warm, friendly faith community in downtown Neenah. Our motto "Come, Share, Grow, and Serve" describes the relationship we desire with God and neighbor. We COME toworship each week to SHARE in Christian fellowship and GROW in our faith. Changed by God's love for us and propelled by the Holy Spirit we SERVE our community and our world.
